The Tower is a Marathon netmap created by Jeff R. with the assistance of Jeff White on a Power Mac 8100/80 over a period of around two months. It was created entirely with Mia 1.0b17 and has never crashed during testing. It has been tested both on a Power Mac 8100/80 and on a Quadra 610 networked together over a Local Talk connection. As The Tower has many large rooms with high ceilings the Quadra was forced to use the lowest amount of detail possible for an acceptable frame rate. A minimum of four players is recommended due to the sheer size of The Tower, although I expect you will have fun no matter how many players you use. Feel free to redistribute The Tower as you see fit, as long as you do not distribute it without this Read Me, and as long as you do not charge for it in any way, shape or form.
To Use
Rename your original map file "Original Map" or some such. Rename The Tower "Map" and place it in the same folder as Marathon. Start Marathon and enjoy.
Names and Places
It is unfortunate that Mia (at this time) cannot add text to maps, as I have named all the major rooms in my mind. Until such a time comes to pass I have provided these names here for those of you that give a crud.
• The Tower - You'll know what it is when you see it.
• The Courtyard - The area surrounding The Tower.
• Observation Deck - North-most area of the map.
• Particle Accelerator - Located in the south-east corner of the map.
• Waterfall Room - Large room with a waterfall in one corner.
• Top of the World - Room at the top of the waterfall.
• The Fort - Area in south-west corner of the Waterfall Room.
• The Catwalk - Narrow walk that leads to the Rocket Launcher.
• The Hot Box - A room with a view. Located at the far south end of the map, near the center.
• Pillar Room - The room with all the pillars. (Yeah, I know, naming that one was a stretch.)
• Tunnel of Love - A place where you can find the Flame Thrower, Invisibility and death.
Some of these names are tenuous, and may be changed in a future release. Besides these locations there are several secrets:There is a second place to find invisibility. There is a way to the sniper ledge in the room with The Tower. Somewhere in this map are both the Fisheye and Infravision power-ups. There are also three secret control rooms, two of which have Light Booths, and one that controls ????? How many of these secrets can you find without (cheating!) using a map editor?
Thank you
•To the people at Bungie. I hope you all know how appreciated you are.
•To Dan Walkowski, creator of Mia, my favorite map editor.
•To Jeff White, whose assistance in creating The Tower has proved invaluable. I feel it is safe to say that without him The Tower might never have been realized.
